As part of their Oracle transformation journey, Proterra sought to move their warehouse label printing operations to the cloud and partnered with Intellinum to implement FlexiPro Label™.
Challenges:
Proterra was running an older version of a leading enterprise label printing solution. This solution was not cost effective or aligned with their future cloud strategy.
Objectives:
- Replace existing on-premises label printing solutions.
- Accommodation for Customer specific Label formats.
- Provide user training for the designer tool to help design the labels of the intuitive drag-and-drop interface for creating personalized labels with text, barcodes, and custom parameters to allow for easy design process.
- Enabling accounts for users with the FlexiPro Label™ web application and allowing users to manage and ensure connectivity to the FlexiPro Label™ ENV from the Oracle Environment.
- Managing multiple printers across production facilities, ensuring consistent labeling standards on registration and management of label printers, ensuring compatibility and optimized printing workflows.
Solutions:
FlexiPro Label™ was implemented for label printing with Oracle EBS WMS using a custom hook that enables seamless printing by invoking the FlexiPro Label™ application with a JSON payload, including label format and printer information. The custom hook was deployed within the customer’s network, supported by detailed installation instructions, and integration calls were scheduled to address any EBS-related roadblocks. Single Sign-On (SSO) was also enabled to simplify user access to the application.
To ensure seamless integration, the custom hook was added to the standard Oracle Label Print program, allowing Oracle EBS to integrate natively with FlexiPro Label™. While the Proterra database was hosted by a third-party vendor, FlexiPro Label™ was configured to meet customer security requirements by enabling TLS 1.3. Secure communication between the Proterra Database Server and FlexiPro Label™ was handled within the custom hook using an Oracle Wallet and HTTP proxy.
FlexiPro Label™ supports the design and printing of safety labels, part identifiers, and regulatory markings with configurable parameters to meet compliance and safety standards in the EV industry. It also enables custom labels for different departments such as R&D, production, and logistics, making it well-suited for a diverse manufacturing environment.
The solution provides advanced barcode and text customization, enabling precise tracking of high-value and sensitive components such as batteries and power modules, significantly improving traceability, quality control, and regulatory compliance.
Infrastructure Highlights:
Proterra FlexiPro Label™ deployed in Intellinum’s Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) with a highly available and fault-tolerant architecture, ensuring maximum uptime and business continuity. A disaster recovery (DR) strategy is in place to protect against unexpected outages and support operational resilience.
Secure TLS 1.3 encryption is used for all communication between the OCI-hosted FlexiPro™ environment and the on-premises Print Manager, ensuring data privacy and secure transmission across facilities.
SSO integration allows users to authenticate seamlessly using their enterprise credentials. The infrastructure is also equipped with real-time monitoring, automated backups, and is scalability-ready, allowing for effortless expansion to accommodate new facilities, printers, and custom label formats as Proterra’s operations grow.
Results:
The successful implementation of FlexiPro Label™ as part of the transition to the cloud, along with the use of a custom hook, enabled seamless communication between Oracle EBS WMS and FlexiPro Label™. This integration automated label generation based on real-time production data.
The solution allows instant label printing to designated printers through an integrated print management system, ensuring efficiency and accuracy on the warehouse floor.
Post–production go-live, seamless user onboarding and hypercare support were provided, enabling users to log support tickets that were resolved in accordance with defined SLA agreements, ensuring operational continuity and user confidence.
